How to Cure Oxygen Depravation or Polycythemia Like the Tibetans - The Opposite of Anemia

Media_httpwwwabsolute_zjhey

The quickest way is to cure polycythemia is to repel down. But if for some reason, you are hell bent on scaling the peak of some mountain or are imprisoned in some Tibetan high mountain penetentiary, you're going to need 10 different genes.

Turns out that at higher elevations, your body compounds the number of your red blood cells. This is a smart bio mechanism that allows you to transport more oxygen in thin air. But it will kill you too - unless you are Tibetan.

Scientists including Lynn Jorde PhD from the U of Utah School of Medicine and Qinghai Medical School found that Tibetans have 10 different genes that keep their body from producing too many red blood cells where most people would just die. They also found that while other races have also adapted to high elevations like the Andes and high mountains of Ethiopia, none of the other groups had these elevation adaptation genes.

The researchers also found that the Tibetans also had higher levels of nitric acid than others. Nitric acid helps deliver more oxygen to muscles and organs.

I Once Loved A Vegetarian. She Broke My Heart

Continued from: "Why I Won't Date a Vegetarian (Apparently, Ashton Kutcher Either)"

Media_httpwwwcoletrai_tyxic

I used to live in Galway, Ireland. To those of you who are unfamiliar, it is the fastest growing hippy capital of the EU. Everyone had beautiful skin, 14 year-olds drank at the bar, roofs were made of fluffy straw, and I fell in love with a vegetarian.

She was beautiful. Her skin had a gothic bluish tint. She was beautiful.

What I didn't know is that she was rapidly becoming anemic. This is a red blood cell disease that leads to deaths like Brittany Murphy's.

Media_httpfarm4static_kwzcb

Her periods lasted about a week. She bruised if I hugged her. She was moody, tired, and restless.

She believed that if she ate meat, her body would be defiled with rotting animal flesh for days. Truth is, human stomachs and the stomachs of lions produce Hydrochloric Acid - herbivores do not. It takes 3-4 hours to digest meat.

If you stop eating meat, your stomach looses it's natural acid producing ability and balance. This makes you constipated. She "used the bathroom" once every two days (Savvy Vegetarian).

It takes 3-4 hours to digest meat

She believed that you can get all the vitamins, minerals and enzymes in meat from plants. You can't. One of the most crucial vitamins for your cholesterol level and blood oxygen transport is Vitamin B12 (people without Vitamin C die of scurvy).

According to the National Library of Medicine and National Institute of Health, "Vitamin B12 is essential for normal nervous system function and blood cell production. The main sources of vitamin B12 include meat, eggs, and dairy products." She pointed to Hindus in India who do perfectly well on a non meat diet. Turns out the only reason they were fine is because of poor sanitation standards. Their vegetables were rich in insect larvae and feces. This was discovered when these same Hindus moved to England. Within a few years, they became anemic.

She believed that she would be supporting the atrocious and unconscionable treatment of animals. I agreed that animals were treated atrociously. But I argued that withdrawing her support for the meat industry was passive. I asked, "Instead of trying to get everyone's dollar out of the meat industry, wouldn't it be more effective to get everyone addicted to meat? This way, we'd have much more financial power to only support humane beef farmers and drive the heartless out of business?

Why I Won't Date a Vegetarian (Apparently, Ashton Kutcher Either)

Media_httpwwwbrittany_leafc

It was 1999. And we partied like it was.

I remember exactly where I spent that evening. I was in my close friend's 3 story retail fashion store on Melrose Blvd, Hollywood. All the men drove up in year 2000 European sports cars. All the women were 110 lbs and 5'10". All the drinks were top shelf. The DJ inhaled one controlled substance after another. And all the guys could go home with two girls or two guys - as they wished.

We were living and we were living large. We had everything we could ever want. Or so we thought.

Frighteningly, many vegetarians and Buddhists are spending their health the same way we spent our imagined money. We all know that low iron, called anemia, makes you

1. bruise easily

2. frequently dizzy especially when you move suddenly

3. erases short-term memory

4. increases miscarriage

5. increases PMS and menstrual bleeding to 1-2 cups (Healthy women menstruate for 3 days loosing about 2 ounces of blood. If you've ever donated blood, you know how dizzy and exhausted you get. Imagine feeling like that all the time)

Just like we partied in 1999, you women who are vegetarians and Buddhists have a high likelihood of crashing. Whether your doctor told you to increase your iron intake or not, do you realize there are two types of iron? Do you know which will make you healthy and which will toxify you?

Of the women I've dated, several had thyroid problems. They took thyroid medication. They were all vegitarians except one. She was a Buddhist.

If you are health conscious as most vegitarians are, you've doubtless compared the nutrition facts of say tofu vs. beef. When you look at the numbers, they give you a kind of security. The numbers make you feel like you can open a new chapter of your life and leave animal protein back where it belongs - in the last millenium.

In reality, you can't. The above chart is taken from the US CDC Website. The asterisks indicate NONheme iron. Nonheme iron rapidly becomes toxic in volume. Northwestern University says, "Iron supplements may be fatal for adults when taken in doses of 200-250 mg/kg from body weight."

Irregularities in the menstrual cycle were experienced by 27% of vegetarians and 5% of nonvegetarians. http://bit.ly/b40JWY - @thoffmanpcv

For those of you who've studied biochemistry, you may consider this alarmist. You realize that nonheme iron can be converted into heme iron - the stuff that makes your red blood cells healthy. But what you may not realize is that according to the American Society of Nutritional Sciences,

"Iron absorption in adult human subjects from legume soups made from soybeans, black beans, lentils, mung beans or split peas is low. Absorption ranged from 2 to 4% even after the absorption values had been adjusted upwards to represent iron absorption from iron-deficient individuals (40% reference dose absorption) (16). ... is thus very low even in iron-deficient subjects with a high demand for iron. The low iron absorption is mainly due to the presence of phytic acid although some legume proteins per se, such as soy, are also inhibitors of iron absorption."

Scary how fast alarmist can sound realist. It gets worse.

If you don't have enough heme iron in your blood but eat high iron vegis and legumes like most Buddhists and Vegitarians do, you'll not only have the above five health problems, you'll also start damaging your liver. The excessive nonheme iron causes cirrosis of the liver. Yep, you'll have cirrosis of the liver without having any of the fun (binge drinking, hepatitis (drugs), syphilis (sex)) that causes cirrosis in most people.

Here's the catch. There are two ways to promote converting nonheme iron into heme iron. Eat your nonheme iron rich foods with bioavailable Vitamin C or just eat that same lugume salad with beef. Yep, beef converts nonheme iron into heme iron. So if you're going to be a vegitarian or Buddhist, atleast eat meat.

some legume proteins per se, such as soy, are also inhibitors of iron absorption

PS. I still keep in touch with most of my friends from that party. The millions they thought they had in the bank crashed with their illusions and the dot com bust three months later. About me and the Dot Com in SF.

PPS. Since then, I won't date another vegitarian again. Apparently, neither will Ashton Kutcher. Next: Who is healthier? Vegetarians or Meat Eaters?
